Andy Byford Appreciation Night
Come celebrate the tenure of New York City Transit’s outgoing President, Andy Byford, on February 20th at Jack Doyle’s in Midtown. After two years of fast-forwarding New York City’s subway and bus network, the leader who came to be known as Train Daddy is departing the MTA. OMNY or swipe your way to Midtown and celebrate the enthusiasm Andy Byford gave New Yorkers with dedication, an open ear, and quintessentially British charm with your fellow young professionals!

Outgoing New York City Transit President Andy Byford energized the public’s enthusiasm and New Yorkers’ hopes for a more contemporary, higher functioning transportation network. From highlighting the basics of signal technology, to hearing from stakeholders dealing with multimodal accessibility challenges, and even attending TransportationCamp NYC, Mr. Byford was passionate about what he did, and cared for and empowered the people who worked for him, including many of our members. YPT-NYC appreciates all that he did in the time he was here, and wishes Mr. Byford well in his future endeavors.
Author Talk: Wednesday, March 18th
Save the date (3/18) for a talk with Sarah Seo, author of Policing the Open Road: How Cars Transformed American Freedom. Sarah is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Iowa. She clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. More details coming soon.
Speed Networking
Join us for our annual night of networking with people in diverse areas of transportation, where young professionals can offer advice and guidance to fellow young professionals and aspiring students. This “speed-dating” style networking event aims to advance professional development and relationships among college students, graduate students, and young professionals in the greater New York City area.
Please fill out this survey to sign up for this event. We recommend doing so right away, as seats fill up quickly! We will contact you a week or so before the event to share mentor bios and networking tips. You must be a YPT member to participate as a mentee.

Member Profile
We’re excited to launch this year’s member profile series with Lauren Bailey, the Director of Climate Policy at the Tri-State Transportation Campaign!
Lauren works to fulfill Tri-State’s priority to meet climate goals. Previously, Lauren served as the Capital District’s Transportation Authority’s Mobility Manager, overseeing their alternative transportation portfolio including a bike-share program, taxi policy, and microtransit. She also has experience in policy development and advocacy, including clean energy and healthcare. Lauren holds a Master’s Certificate in Urban Policy and a B.A. in Political Science & Public Health from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
What are you working on that you’re most passionate or proud about?
I think I am most proud of my organization’s work around the MTA Capital Plan. It’s so easy for the public–and even transit professionals–to glaze over when you look at project lists, budgets, and timelines. Our work has centered on humanizing the massive investments and asking questions to make sure transit advocates, other government officials and the riding public have the answers they need.
What is the biggest transit-related problem that you’d like to help solve?
I want to figure out how to get people in suburban areas out of their vehicles. There is such a stigma to walking, biking, and taking transit in areas where driving is often the quickest.
